WINONA – A local man is facing charges in connection with a May 19 shooting on Greensboro Street.
Kentarius Hobbs, 20, of Winona, who is facing aggravated assault charges, appeared before Winona City Judge Alan D. Lancaster Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
According to the testimony of William Goldman, 21, of Winona, Hobbs and two others shot multiple rounds of bullets at him and his GMC Yukon as he left his home at 712 Greensboro Street in Winona. “The bullets hit my car,” Goldman testified. “They hit about a foot away from my head. They fired about 10 to 12 shots into the car.”
Goldman said three men were positioned behind a group of mailboxes when they began firing on him, and he identified Hobbs as one of the shooters during his testimony.
Defense counsel Lee Bailey asked Goldman what Hobbs’ motive would be for shooting at him. Goldman said he did not, but about two months ago, he noticed Hobbs’ behavior toward him change.
Following the testimony, Lancaster stated that the prosecution had shown probable cause that a crime had been committed and bound Hobbs over to the action of the grand jury. Bond was continued at $10,000.
Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator for the Winona Police Department, told the court there was an active warrant for another suspect in the case, but he did not identify the suspect. Herod declined to speak about the case while the investigation is ongoing.
In other Winona City Court news, John Blansett went before Lancaster for an initial hearing. Blansett was arrested and charged with possession of crystal methamphetamine. Lancaster set bond at $25,000 and set the preliminary hearing for June 20, 2019.
