J.Z. George finished third among six teams in the District 3-3A boys track meet last week at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena. The girls were fifth.
The boys finished with 83 points, trailing Yazoo County with 138 points and Amanda Elzy with 89.
“It was decent. We could have done better,” said Jaguar coach William Rodgers. “We had a short time to prepare. This was the first time that we really have been on a track for a full day event.”
Rakia Ball won two events for the Lady Jaguars, finishing first in the 1600 with a time of 7:09 and the 3200 (15.30). Montavis Jenkins was the lone individual winner for the Jaguars in the discus with a throw of 117-4.
The top four in each event at the district meet qualified for the region meet which will be held Friday at Kosciusko along with qualifiers from 4-3A.
Other boys who qualified for the region meet: Ceasa Glenn, second in the 1600 and fourth in the 800; Peyton Jenkins, second in the 3200; Josua Johnson, third in the 200 and the 400; Malik Branch, fourth in the 3200; Marquinn Watt, fourth in the 110 hurdles; Larry Owens, fourth in the high jump, Jarvis Jackson, fourth in the discus; 3200 relay, third; and 1600 relay fourth.
Other Lady Jaguar qualifiers: Olivia Carpenter, second in the 400, Kelcia Stancil, third in the 100 and fourth in the 200; and the 1600 and 3200 relay teams, both fourth.
The boys and girls team both have only one senior.
