CARROLLTON – The board of directors for Evergreen Cemetery is hoping its first Festival of Trees will help kick off the community’s Christmas spirit.
As a fundraiser to support Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton, the board is hosting a Festival of Trees at the Carrollton Masonic Lodge, and according to board member Linda Perkins, local clubs, church, school, and civic groups will decorate a tree to be displayed for the community.
“There will be 14 trees,” Perkins said. “They will be on tour, and people can come and view the trees.”
The Festival of Trees will be open to the public on Sunday, December 1 from 2 until 4 p.m., Saturday, December 7 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and Tuesday, December 5 from 5 until 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for students. There is no charge for pre-school age children.
There will even be prizes for the most popular trees, voted on by the public, and prizes will be given for first, second, and third place winners.
Perkins said the Evergreen Cemetery board came up with the idea for the Festival of Trees after several members of Carrollton Baptist Church visited a similar event at the Museum of the Mississippi Delta in Greenwood.
“We thought we would try it this year, and if it works, we will make it better next year,” Perkins said.
“All the proceeds will go toward the upkeep of Evergreen Cemetery,” Perkins said.
