WINONA – The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors approved an engineering proposal from Gardener Engineering to provide services in the development of a proposed economic development project in Duck Hill.
According to Supervisor Edwin Taylor, the proposed industrial development could be a possible $15 million investment in Montgomery County.
North Central Planning and Development’s Chris Pope informed the board that he is working on grant applications to the Appalachian Regional Authority for possible funding for the project.
In other county news:
• The board voted to take mobile radios and walkie talkies currently not used by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department off the department’s official inventory.
• The board approved the trade in of shotguns not used for credit on future equipment purchases from a vendor.
• Montgomery County Emergency Operations Director Allan Pratt informed the board that the FEMA fire grant was submitted Friday, and if the grant is funded, the money would benefit all county fire departments.
• Pratt informed the board that he has received offers fire trucks available from the federal government for Montgomery County’s volunteer fire departments. However, if the county accepts one of the trucks or other vehicles, the stipulation says that the vehicle must be painted red, white or yellow for fire service and must be housed inside a building to protect them from vandalism and weather.
“As far as fire trucks, we are getting calls, and they are available, but we don’t have anywhere to put them,” Pratt said. “If the fire trucks aren’t stored inside, they will come get them.”
