WINONA – The board of aldermen approved the purchase of equipment for the street and water departments.
The purchases is being funded by a bond general obligation bonds in the amount of $1.2 million, which is not only funding the purchase of equipment for the city but paid for the installation of artificial turf on the ball fields at the Winona Recreational Park.
The board voted to purchase a dump truck for $40,010 for the street department, trash pump for $31,482 to be used to pump out sewer lines and storm lines, a four-ton asphalt hot box and recycler for $49,995 for the street department, a mini main-line camera for $49,999 to investigate problems in sewer lines and storm drains, and a 20-foot utility trailer for $4,595 for the water department.
According to Winona Mayor Jerry Flowers, the purchase of equipment for the street department is necessary for the city to begin a “massive paving project, which will include streets in all parts of the City of Winona” which should begin as soon as the weather permits and asphalt becomes available.
The city will use money currently available in the city’s General Fund to resurface streets prioritized by the board of aldermen.
The purchase of a new brush truck and street sweeper will be made at a future date through a reverse auction.
