WINONA -- At Monday’s regular meeting of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, the board voted move forward in repaving School Road in Kilmichael after it was damaged from heavy equipment used for cleanup of the April 2017 tornado.
Part of the contract between the county and the storm cleanup contractor, Look’s Great, was that the company is responsible for any damage made to county roads during the cleanup process. School Road received significant damage from trucks because the temporary disposal site for debris was located on the south side of School Road.
The board voted to move forward and begin repairing school road and prepare it for paving. The county will seek quotes on asphalting the road.
Recently, the board expressed interest in repaving the Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital parking lot. The board voted to seek quotes to repave the parking lot as well as School Road.
In other county business:
• Linda Henson, who is opening a convenient store in Poplar Creek, approached the board about the possibility of selling beer on Sunday. County Attorney Alan D. Lancaster informed her that to give voters a say in a referendum vote to sell beer on Sundays, there must be a petition signed by a certain number of Montgomery County voters before the board of supervisors can vote on the matter.
• Henson also asked the board about the county abandoning a gravel cutoff known as Jefcoat Road, between Highway 413 and Poplar Creek Road. Henson said only her store and one residence is located on the road. Lancaster said the county needed to see if any other landowners would be affected if the county chose to abandon the road.
• The board voted to hire Kaitlynn Redditt as a full-time dispatcher at the Montgomery County Emergency Operations Center, effective immediately. Director Allan Pratt said she will have to pursue certification for the position.
• The board accepted a bid of $6,700 from J.J. Ferguson of Greenwood to drive in four pilings on a bridge located on North Mission Road.
