The J.Z. George girls and boys basketball teams both went 0-2 on the hardwood last week as they played road games at Charleston High and McAdams High School.
The Jaguars, who dropped to 6-11 on the season, battled McAdams after a rough start in the first quarter to only lose 66-62 to the Bulldogs Friday night in McAdams.
McAdams jumped out to an 18-7 lead after the first quarter, but the Jaguars roared back to only trail by four at 29-25 at the half.
J.Z. George pulled to within three at 49-46 by the end of the third quarter with a 21-20 edge. McAdams held off the Jags with a 17-16 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes.
Malik Branch paced the Jaguars with 26 points, and Devontae Smith tacked on 11 points.
The Lady Jags saw their overall mark drop to 2-16 with a 42-27 loss to the Lady Bulldogs, who held leads of 11-10 after the first period, 22-13 at the half and 31-20 after the third frame.
Dekeria Walls led J.Z. George with 15 points. Tyla Branch notched four, and leading scorer Tashanda Fleming was held to three points.
J.Z. George played at Charleston on Jan. 8 in Region 3-3A games. The Jaguars fell 79-41 to fall to 1-2 in league play.
Charleston went in front 21-8 after the first frame and made it 45-22 by halftime. The Tigers led 68-29 after the third period.
Branch had 11 points, and Kendrick Glover tacked on six for the Jaguars.
The Lady Jaguars battled Charleston to the very end in a 54-50 setback to the Lady Tigers. Charleston led 20-12 after the first frame and 30-24 at the half, but the Lady Jags took a 40-39 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Fleming led J.Z. George (0-3 in region) with 22 points. Walls tacked on 10 points.
J.Z. George played Region 3 games at home against Yazoo County Tuesday night, and they go to East Webster Friday for non-district games.
