WINONA – The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors voted to purchase security cameras to monitor the trash bins at the county barn on Poorhouse Road.
The county has been plagued for years with people dumping trash on the ground around the bins after the bins are full. The board voted to purchase cameras for $2,700 to monitor the area and identify those responsible for making the mess. The county’s road crew has to spend time each week to clean up the area around the bins.
The board asked the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department to monitor the cameras and ticket those responsible for dumping trash on the ground.
In other county business, the board promoted Lisa White to assistant Emergency Management director and 911 director. In addition, the board voted to make dispatcher Amanda Vance full-time.
• The board hired Alan Scott of Engineering Services of Grenada as the engineer for the fire lane and sewer for the Biewer sawmill development.
• The board approved the attendance of Montgomery County Coroner Allen Pratt at the annual Mississippi Coroner’s Conference in April.
• The board approved Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District’s school bus turnarounds for 2021-2022.
• The board authorized Circuit Clerk Lanelle Martin and the Montgomery County Election Commission to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office that acknowledges a grant that provides added security for elections.
• The board authorized Board President Ron Wood to sign a promissory note for a CAP loan pertaining to the covered arena project at the Montgomery County Coliseum.
• The board authorized Pratt to apply for a FEMA grant for a generator and shelter for the county.
• The board authorized a one-year maintenance warranty for a Kofax scanner at Montgomery County Justice Court for $95.
