Even when things seem as though they are out of place, there’s still kindness in the world.
Rebecca Johnson, director of God’s House of Hope Kilmichael, said when the pandemic began, they were worried about how it would affect their donations. The center relies on the donations of people to help them cover overhead and take care of the needs of the facility. But, she said donations didn’t slow up or even come to a halt, they increased.
“God is faithful,” she said. “People are donating more now than they regularly did. It’s like God took all of that and gave it to us and blessed us,” she said.
Johnson said not only did their donations increase, but they were also blessed with a new roof, courtesy of Dixie Roofing.
According to Kris Blakely, president of Dixie Roofing, with the help of supplies GAF, headquartered in New Jersey, and Perma “R” of Grenada, Dixie Roofing was able to install a new roof on a large portion of the God’s House of Hope building. Blakely said the replacement was needed on the oldest portion of the building on the east side. Repairs were made to other parts of the roof.
Blakely estimated that the job would have cost approximately $50,000, however, GAF donated the roof materials and Perma “R” donated insulation. Dixie Roofing provided the labor.
God’s House of Hope is not the first roof donation given by Dixie Roofing. The Winona company has installed new roofs to the boys home in Grenada, the Salvation Army building in Greenwood, the main concession stand at the Winona Recreational Park, and the press box at the Winona High School baseball team.
Blakely said the company does its best to help those in need in the community, and God’s House of Hope is an example of that.
“We try to do as much as we can,” said Blakely.
Johnson said, “We’re thankful for the people who have poured into us and continue to pour into us, God’s been good.”
