July 1, 2025, will be the beginning of the 2025-2029 municipal term here in Mississippi. The votes from the June 3 General Election will have been cast, certified, and the elected officials from the city halls decided. With the first board meeting in July business will begin to be conducted for the beginning of the new term. Municipal government is the closest to the people, and having sound policy makes a big difference in a town and city moving forward.
It is important for cities and towns across this state to begin the new term with goals, plans, and priorities for making a better community to its full potential with building on the success of the previous 2021-2025 term that will be coming to an end next month.
As I will take the oath of office in July for a fourth term as mayor I have been working for months on plans for the 2025-2029 term. As a matter of fact of fact in January during my state of the town address at that month’s board meeting, I outlined proposals for the new term that was covered by this newspaper.
I am proud of the last four years we have invested in our town with at times small proposals that added up. Whether it was a mural, a little stretch of sidewalk or preparing for the unexpected when tornados, flash flooding and these emergencies happened that changed the course for a while. However, we worked with MEMA and FEMA, recovered, and built back better.
I am proud over the past four years North Carrollton has won its first time ever Mississippi Municipal League Awards and it was in Planning and Economic Development for municipalities under 10,000.
These efforts are rewarding in building a community up, striving for excellence and having leadership that is looking forward.
I am proud that we here in North Carrollton have made our community a better place that is recognized statewide. All these great efforts have been 5-0 approval of the board of aldermen over the last four years. That is solid, that is beneficial in having sound policy.
While I am proud of the last term, 2025-2029 term is about six weeks away. At that time, we will roll out plans for building on the last term that will be bringing our town to an even higher level.
