During the April meeting of the North Carrollton Mayor and Board of Aldermen, tourism and infrastructure were at the top of the agenda. North Carrollton Mayor Ken Strachan presented a proposal to aldermen for new decorative stop/street signs to be placed on Singleton Street near Highway 35 and First Street near Marshall Elementary School.
“In this proposal with the Singleton Street decorative sign, we will have all the decorative stop/street signs completed on the west side of town going toward the Carroll County Ballpark just like we did earlier this year completing going to J.Z. George High School. With First Street we will also begin the decorative signs to complete going toward Marshall Elementary School,” Mayor Strachan said.
The total cost of the decorative street/stop signs in mayor Strachan’s proposal was $1,845.36 to be paid with tourism funding. On a motion from Alderman Chris Givens and seconded by Alderman Barbara Sheppard the proposal was passed unanimously.
Mayor Strachan said with additional funding over the next two months he will be presenting a proposal for decorative street/stop signs for Second Street and Third Street at the May board meeting, and Fourth and Fifth Streets at the June board meeting.
“This will then in June complete all decorative street/stop signs on all the streets going toward Marshall Elementary to the city limits. We will be on schedule with approval of these projects to come to have all completed by the end of this current term,” Mayor Strachan said. The new municipal term begins July 1 and the General Election is June 3.
Mayor Strachan presented a template of decorative banners to be placed going to the town’s industrial park. The banners will be promoting the proposed Carroll County Multipurpose Complex where the farmers market will be held on May 22. Mayor Strachan told alderman he had presented the proposal to the Carroll County Board of Supervisors and the cost was a little over $1,900 and the Board of Supervisors approved purchasing the banners and Mayor Strachan said the town will have them placed.
“This is a great effort among two boards in working together to get things done for our town and county,” Mayor Strachan said.
