Christmas. The season of giving. The time of year where you rush to find the perfect gift, or you worry your parents about your Christmas list, or maybe you worry about how gifts will even happen when it's a struggle to make ends meet.
Well, I was thinking about these scenarios this week and I thought back to that first Christmas. The bible tells us that the wisemen brought gifts to Jesus of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, but the wisemen were not the first people to welcome Jesus. The first people to welcome our Savior were shepherds from the fields outside of town. These shepherds didn’t bring any gifts with them, but what they did bring was worth more than any material gift could’ve been. The shepherds showed up and brought hearts of worship.
Now an interesting fact of your day is that the story of the shepherds is only mentioned in the Gospel of Luke, and Luke wrote his book from the first hand account of Mary the mother of Jesus. So, these shepherds and their worship meant so much to Mary that she had to tell Luke.
So maybe you don’t have anything to give or bring this Christmas season, but I encourage you to show up, send a text or a note, or let somebody know how much they mean to you, and have a heart of thankfulness. That may be just the thing that means the most to somebody this Christmas.
Remember Ms. Faulk loves you, but Jesus loves you more.
