Everybody, I don’t know if you know it yet, but summer is truly in full swing. It’s hot, there’s a lot of swimming, people playing baseball, and for some of your parents and grandparents it's gardening time.
I bet if you asked your parents they have some picking, hoeing, snapping, or shelling stories that they’d be glad to share with you and also to remind you how easy you have it during the summer. Gardening is a wonderful thing because you can see the fruit of your labor right there on the plant. You can easily know which plants are producing fruit and which ones aren’t.
Gardening and harvesting are a great illustration for Christians. A lot of people may say they are Christians, but they do not have the fruit to prove it, and there are some Christians who never have to say a words and you know they love Jesus just by their fruit. The fruit we look for in a Christian is called the fruit of the spirit. The fruits of the spirits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. These are the things I look for in Christians and I’m going to take the next couple weeks and we are going to look at each fruit and hopefully y’all will be able to see fruit in others and in yourselves.
So, until next week where we will talk about love, ask your parents some gardening questions and remember Ms. Faulk loves you, but Jesus loves you more.
