The Winona Tigers won a pair of big division games this past week.
The Tigers beat Amanda Elzy 57-55 and then beat Coahoma Early College 61-39 last week.
Winona returns to division play this week as they travel to Humphreys County on Tuesday. On Friday, Winona travels to Eupora in non-division contest. The next week, Winona will travel to Senatobia on Tuesday, Jan. 26 and will travel to Ruleville Central on Friday, Jan. 29.
Winona boys 57, Amanda Elzy 55
The Tigers ended each half strong and took a hard-fought two-point win over Amanda Elzy last week.
Each team scored 15 points in the first period and Winona outscored Amanda Elzy 15-9 in the second period to take a 30-24 lead at the half. But Amanda Elzy stormed back in the third period and outscored Winona 16-7 to take a 40-37 lead going into the fourth. Winona fought back in the fourth and outscored Amanda 20-15 o take the two-two-point win.
Sean Merritt led Winona with 20 points while Clifford Lee had 15 points. Dadarion Small had 12 points while Damarlya Mister added nine points.
Winona boys 61, Coahoma Early College 39
The Tigers build a big lead in the first half and took a 22-point win over Coahoma.
The Tigers started hot as they led 19-5 at the end of the first period and outscored Coahoma 18-7 in the second to lead 37-12 at the half. The Tigers added to their lad in the third period as they outscored Coahoma 16-14 in the third to lead 53-26 going into the fourth. Coahoma took the fourth period 13-8 for the final margin.
The Tigers used a balanced scoring attack to take the win as Sean Merritt was the only player in double figures with 15 points. Dadarian Small had eight points and Ty Clark had seven points. Jaiwan Small, Clifford Lee, Damarlya Mister and Kedaius Topps each had six points apiece for Winona.
