The Winona Christian Lady Stars got off to a hot start in the Class 3A North State softball tournament this past weekend.
The Lady Stars hammered Kirk Academy 12-0 in the opening round and followed that up with a 3-2 win over North Delta.
But after a day off on Monday, the Lady Stars lost two straight on Tuesday to finish third in the tournament, falling 8-0 to Marshall Academy and 7-5 to North Delta.
Winona, now 18-13 on the year, will advance to the Class 3A state tournament on Saturday at Magee.
North Delta 7, Winona Christian 5
The Lady Wave jumped out to an early lead and held on to take a two-run win and eliminate the Lady Stars on Tuesday.
North Delta scored four in the first and led 7-2 after four innings. Winona scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth for the final margin.
Sara Rawles was 3-for-4 while Madyson Leach was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Allie Leach and Ashleigh Parkinson each had two hits apiece while Lennie Wood and Katy Ware each scored two runs apiece.
Rawles pitched all seven innings, giving up 12 hits while striking out six.
Marshall 8, Winona Christian 0
The Lady Stars only had three hits in a shutout loss to Marshall to open the day on Tuesday.
Marshall scored in five of the six innings and banged out 15 hits on the day.
Winona had three hits as Sara Rawles doubled while Madyson Leach and Hannah Robertson each singled.
Winona Christian 3, North Delta 2
The Lady Stars scored the go-ahead goal in the bottom of the sixth and held on to take a one-run win over the Lady Wave on Saturday to advance to the North 3A third-round game.
North Delta scored three in the top of the third before Winona scored single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings.
The Lady Stars had six hits as Allie Leach went 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored. Hannah Robertson was also 2-for-3 while Kaylah Varnes singled, scored and had an RBI. Katy Ware also had three stolen bases.
Sara Rawles pitched all seven innings and gave up two unearned runs on five hits.
Winona Christian 12, Kirk 0
The Lady Stars opened the North 3A Tournament with a run-rule win over Kirk on Saturday.
Winona scored six runs in the first, one on the second and five in the third.
Winona outhit Kirk 10-2 in he contest. Lennie Wood was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs while Ashleigh Parkinson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Madyson Leach was 2-for-2 while Sara Rawles and Kaylah Varnes each singled and drove in two runs. Katy Ware scored three runs while Hannah Robertson had two stolen bases.
Sara Rawles pitched all four innings and gave up just two hits and struck out seven.
Winona Christian 12, Carroll 3
The Lady Stars took advantage of 10 errors by the Lady Rebels and took a 10-run over over the Lady Rebels on Tuesday in the regular-season finale.
Winona scored one in the first, three in the third, five in the fourth and three in the fifth. Carroll scored its two runs in the third.
Winona had nine hits in the game as Allie Leach was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Sara Rawles was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Lennie Wood scored two runs and had two RBIs. Ashleigh Parkinson and Madyson Leach each scored two runs apiece.
Sara Rawles gave up two unearned runs on three hits and struck out five.
Pillow 8, Winona Christian 1
The Lady Mustangs broke open a close game with six runs over the last three innings to take the win on Monday.
Pillow led 2-1 after four innings before scoring three in the fifth one in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Pillow outhit Winona 17-3. Haley Beckwith and Ashleigh Parkinson each had doubles for Winona.
