More than a dozen firefighters from three Montgomery County fire departments braved the elements late Monday night as they battled a fully involved business fire in the Winona Industrial Park.
Firefighters responded to the industrial fire that occurred on Jan. 8, at a mechanic shop located at 223 Industrial Park Rd., while steady rain fell in near freezing temperatures. Winona Fire Department received the call from the Emergency Operations Center and was dispatched at 9:11 p.m.
Upon arrival, WFD called for mutual aid. The Kilmichael and the Poplar Creek volunteer fire departments responded to assist in battling the blaze, which resulted in a total loss of the building.
“The cause is undetermined right now,” WFD Assistant Fire Chief Ronnie Huffman said Tuesday afternoon. “It was fully involved when we arrived on the scene.”
Two fire trucks from Winona responded as well as one truck from Kilmichael and one from Poplar Creek. MedStat Emergency Medical Service also had an ambulance on the scene as a precautionary measure. No injuries were reported.
Huffman said that about 20 firefighters responded the scene. He added that he was proud of his department and the assisting departments for their dedication and hard work at the scene.
“They did an excellent job,” he concluded.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
