With Thanksgiving now behind us we’re headed to Christmas 2024 which includes programs at area churches and parades. Saturday is the annual Carrollton/North Carrollton Christmas Parade. In early November we began going through the Christmas decorations in the shop at North Carrollton City Hall and got the lights on the poles along with making needed repairs and additions ahead of the Christmas Parade, “A Cowboy Christmas.” There is an abundance of Christmas parades across this area that are going on in both Carroll and Montgomery counties.
Each year it brings back a lot of memories when going through these decorations getting ready for the parade. There are some decorations that are still here from years ago, and some that have been replaced along the way. That brings back a lot of memories. Just back in December 2020 it’s remembered when the COVID-19 pandemic played a big role in the in changing things in the parade activities
This Saturday the parade begins in Carrollton and comes down the hill, from the Merrill Museum passing the historic courthouse, crossing the new Big Sand Creek Bridge that opened in 2023 and winding through the streets of North Carrollton. Also, the use of today’s technology makes those memories much easier to capture than in years past. Sure, over the years things have changed, and new faces are here participating. That’s part of life. Time keeps going and we make good memories of these occasions along the way. It’s a 21st century image for memories and keepsakes with smartphones, and the pictures come instantly now along with the videos.
There was an abundance of memories made over the years, just like the memories that will be made this Saturday. These memories and photographs that will be made on Saturday at the 2024 Carrollton/North Carrollton Christmas Parade will be an addition to the glory days of these past parades and the community fellowship that will be on display here will remain for generations.
