The Montgomery County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted their annual membership dinner on Thurs, Feb. 8 at the Montgomery County Coliseum, drawing a crowd of 172 attendees, one among the many being David Ellis, the Guest Speaker of the night.
A silent and live auction were held at the dinner, the proceeds going to the purchasing of hog traps and a ranger to assist local farmers and landowners. As a nonprofit organization, run by District Administrator Carla Walls of Montgomery County, all proceeds go to buying equipment for local landowners.
The purpose of the organization is to assist local landowners and producers facing financial strain incurred through land preservation. The group helps address erosion issues on local properties, aids in erecting fences, and teaches local Montgomery County students about land conservation.
Over $10,000 has been raised so far from the ever-growing membership of 70+ locals.
