Master Sergeant Johnnie Lee Gross of St. Louis, Mo. (native of Winona, Mississippi) is being honored by the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight along with our grateful nation to attend the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall in Washington D.C., where he will be able to view the names of those he grew up with and who lost their lives in the war fighting for our country.
He will be searching the names of his fellow comrades: Willie Fullilove - July 12, 1967, Willie J. Croom - November 12, 1967, Jimmie L. Forrest - April 5, 1967, and Carter L. Williams - February 28, 1966.
This event is scheduled for April 9, which is also the birthday of his late Wife, Dorothy J. "Dot" Dunn Gross.
Johnnie will be accompanied by his son, Derral of St. Louis, Mo. Johnnie is a 1959 graduate of J.J. Knox High School in Winona and a 1963 graduate of Jackson State University. He has been very active in the recruitment of students to JSU for many years and was previously named Recruiter of the Year. He is the father of Derral and Kenny Gross and grandfather to two grandchildren.
Johnnie is the brother of Doris Jean Gross, Wanda Faye Gross - James, Steve Lamar Gross and Vickie Gross-Baskin who are extremely proud of his accomplishments and service to our country.
