A Winona man will serve six years in prison for aggravated assault.
Jermie Jackson was found guilty of assaulting Krystal Hill, a former girlfriend, by a Montgomery County jury Monday afternoon. Hill suffered a broken arm in the assault.
According to Hill’s testimony, she met with Jackson on the morning of March 18, 2018, to return his NBA’s Clipper bag. She said she was speaking with him through the door, when he pushed his way into the residence and began hitting her.
“I felt a pop in my arm,” Hill testified.
Hill was later treated for a broken arm at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital.
Testifying in his own defense, Jackson stated that he had an alibi for the morning of March 18. He said he was in Tuscaloosa, Ala., at the home of Marilyn Coleman. However, as a prosecution witness, Coleman testified that Jackson was at her home the day after the assault.
“I did not come to Winona on March 18,” Jackson said. “I was with Marilyn Coleman the entire day.”
On cross examination, prosecutor Brandon Langford asked Jackson, “So both of these ladies are lying, and you are the only one telling the truth.”
“Yes,” Jackson answered. “[Coleman] is mad that I was going from one woman to another.”
After an hour-long deliberation, the jury announced its verdict of guilty.
Loper sentenced to 10 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with six years to serve, four years of post release supervision, and will pay all court costs, fees, and assessments.
