In the early morning hours of Feb. 5, Carroll County Deputies executed a search warrant at the residence of Jonathan Shurrod Phillips on County Road 27 in the Vaiden area. Deputies were assisted by tactical paramedics from MedStat who stood by during the operation. The search was the result of a six-month-long narcotics investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office during which Phillips, age 44, was identified as a major narcotics distributor in the Central Mississippi area.
During the search, deputies seized a large amount of cash. Methamphetamines, opiates, crack cocaine, and weapons were also confiscated and taken into evidence. Phillips was booked into the Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility on charges of trafficking of opiates, trafficking of crack cocaine, and trafficking of methamphetamines. Also arrested was a juvenile who is being held on misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and felony possession of a fully automatic firearm. The 16-year-old has already been adjudicated as an adult in a neighboring jurisdiction and is expected to be charged as an adult in this case as well.
Sheriff Clint Walker said, “I appreciate the countless hours that our deputies have poured into this case. Our department stands firmly committed to stopping the flow of illegal drugs through our county, and our deputies have dedicated a lot of time to pursuing this case to its conclusion. I thank them for their tireless efforts along with MedStat personnel for standing by as the search warrant was executed. Neighbors in the Vaiden community, who were sick of the dope dealing, were a major asset in bringing this case to an end and I thank them for their bravery and fearlessness in reporting it to us. Most of all, I thank the Lord that this was all done safely and without harm to anyone.”
