The Winona Christian Lady Stars picked up a pair of wins last week against a pair of larger schools.
The Lady Patriots beat Winston Academy 49-45 and then hammered Canton Academy 59-33.
The Stars split their two contests, beating Winston 44-28 and falling 65-38 to Canton.
Winona Christian will finish off its pre-Christmas schedule this week with a trio of scheduled contests. Winona was set to host Carroll on Tuesday and then Marshall on Thursday before traveling to Hebron Christian on Friday.
After Friday, Winona Christian isn’t scheduled to return to action until Jan. 5 at Indianola.
Winona Christian girls 49, Winston 45
The Lady Stars built a first-half lead and were able to hold on late to take a five-point win over the Lady Patriots.
The score was tied at 11 at the end of the first period before Winona outscored Winston 15-10 in the second period and led 26-21 at the half. The Lady Stars extended their lead in the third period as they outscored the Lady Patriots 12-9 in the third to take a 38-30 lead into the fourth period.
Audrey Eldridge had a big night for the Lady Stars with a double-double effort with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Bella Roberts had 16 points, eight rebounds and seven steals in the contest.
Winona Christian boys 44, Winston 28
The Stars outscored the Patriots in every period as they cruised to a 16-point win last week.
The game was tight in the first half as Winona led 8-5 at the end of the first period and 17-13 at the half. But WCS pulled away in the third period as they outscored the Patriots 15-6 in the third period to lead 32-19 going to the fourth period.
John White led the Stars with 15 points and six rebounds while Colin Parkinson had 10 points and eight rebounds. Jake Ware also had 13 points for the Stars.
Winona Christian girls 59, Canton 33
The Lady Stars used quick starts to each half as they ran away with a 26-point win over the Lady Panthers.
Winona jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first period and outscored the Lady Panthers 16-10 in the second period to lead 26-13 at the half. The Lady Stars put the game away in the third period as they outscored the Lady Panther 17-8 in the third to carry a 4-21 lead into the fourth period.
Bella Roberts had another big night as she led the Lady Stars with 26 points and eight rebounds. Audrey Eldridge had 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double effort while Olivia Brooks had six points and five assists.
Canton boys 65, Winona Christian 38
The Stars couldn’t hold onto a first-half lead as the Panthers ran away late to take a 27-point win over the Stars.
The game was close in the first half as Winona led 9-8 at the end of the first and 22-21 at the half. But Canton started to get rolling in the second half as they outscored Winona 18-12 in the third period to take a 39-34 lead into the fourth. In that fourth period, Canton outscored 26-4 to run away with the win.
Jake Ware led Winona Christian with 20 points and five steals while John White had 13 points and seven rebounds.
