The Winona Tigers returned from the Christmas break and opened up division play with a pair of games.
The Tigers swept those two games as they beat Humphreys County 55-44 and then beat Coahoma Early College 58-37.
Winona will return to action this week as they are scheduled to travel to Amanda Elzy on Tuesday and host Coahoma County on Friday. Next week, Winona will travel to Humphreys County on Tuesday, Jan. 19 and then travel to Eupora on Friday, Jan. 22.
Winona boys 55, Humphreys County 44
The Tigers used a big third period as they opened division play with an 11-point win over the Cowboys.
Winona outscored Humphreys 14-9 in the first period while the Cowboys took the second period 12-7 to tie the score at 21-21 at the half. Winona pulled away in the second half as they outscored Humphreys 22-12 in the third to take a 43-33 lead into the fourth. Winona outscored Humphreys 12-11 in the fourth for the final margin.
Damariya Mister led a balanced Winona scoring attack with 15 points. Sean Merritt had 12 points while Dadarian Small had 11 points. Jaiwan Small had 10 points while T.J. Lockhardt added seven points.
Winona boys 58, Coahoma 37
The Tigers outscored the Red Panthers in every period and cruised to a 21-point win in division play.
The Tigers jumped out to an 18-10 lead in the first period and outscored the Red Panthers 11-9 in the second for a 29-19 halftime advantage. Winona continued to extend its lead in the second half as they outscored Coahoma 12-9 in the third and 17-9 in the fourth.
The Tigers had another balanced scoring attack in the win. Dadarian Small and Sean Merritt each had 12 points to lead the Tigers while Damariya Mister had 10 points. Jaiwan Small had nine points while Clifford Lee added eight points.
