The Winona High School girls volleyball team went 1-1 at its own tournament Saturday in moving its record to 5-4.
The Lady Tigers opened with a two-set win over Houlka High School, claiming the sets 25-9 and 25-11. However, in their afternoon match, they lost to Eupora High School 2-1. Winona won the first set 25-22 and lost the second and third sets, 25-22 and 15-12.
Winona played two other matches last week. On Aug. 20, the Lady Tigers beat Water Valley 3-0, winning the sets 25-7, 25-12 and 25-9. On Aug. 19, the Lady Tigers topped J.Z. George 3-0 as they won the sets 25-9, 25-12 and 25-8. In the junior varsity match, Winona won 2-0 as it won the sets 25-16 and 25-19.
Winona, which hosted Ethel High School Tuesday, goes to Senatobia High School Thursday. The Lady Tigers will go to Grenada Sept. 2 and visit Yazoo County Sept. 3.
J.Z. George (0-3) also played Holmes County Central last Thursday, falling 3-1 in Lexington. Holmes won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-17. The Lady Jags claimed the third set 26-24, and Holmes won the fourth set 25-13.
The Lady Jags, who hosted Sebastopol High School Tuesday, play at Eupora Thursday and entertain Philadelphia Sept. 3 in a district match.
