The Winona Christian School tennis team clinched the district title last week on the road with a team win over Indianola Academy. Last Thursday’s win makes the Stars undefeated in district play, with wins over Indianola Academy, Winston Academy, and Oak Hill.
According to Coach Finis Beauchamp, outstanding players on the team are John Carter Walker and Eli Lewis in boys singles; Allie Rawles and Olivia Brooks in girls singles; Reese Cooper, Deuce Monneyham, Trager Yeoman, Jack Sorgen, and J.P. McElroy in boys doubles; Lucy Oliver, Hope Farmer, Marla Ray McKnight, Rana Paige Davis, and Piper Davis in girls doubles; and Logan Graham and Bella Roberts in mixed doubles.
“We are a very young team with only two seniors,” Beauchamp said. “The rest are 10th grade and below. We are expecting a state championship out of some of our players this year. Being so young, we ought to have many more state champions in years to come. Keep your eyes on John Carter Walker in the coming years.”
Senior Rana Paige Davis has already signed to play tennis at Holmes Community College next year.
Beauchamp said the North State tournament will be held April 26-30, with the state tournament set for the next week.
“Keep your eyes on the Stars,” Beauchamp said.
