The Winona Tigers wrapped up district play this past week with another football-like win over Humphreys County.
The Tigers beat Humphreys 17-13 on Tuesday and then beat Vardaman 15-5 on Thursday.
Winona improves to 10-5 on the season and will play at Calhoun Academy on Tuesday and then host Eupora on Thursday. They will finish out the week by playing at Water Valley on Saturday.
Winona 17, Humphreys County 13
The Tigers overcame an early deficit and took a four-run win over Humphreys County on Tuesday.
Humphreys scored four runs in the bottom of the first while Winona answered with six in the top of the second. Winona added three in the third and two in the second with single runs in the fifth and sixth. Each team scored four runs in the seventh for the final margin.
Winona outhit Humphreys 10-6 in the contest. Griffin Faulkner was 2-for-4 with a double while Jacob Myers was 2-for-5. Chase Richardson tripled, walked three times and scored two runs. Danarius Robinson homered, scored four runs and had two RBIs. Dalton Ferguson singled and had three RBIs while Kamron Wadlington had two RBIs and scored two runs. Javaris Hemphill walked four times and scored two runs while Ja’Mes Alexander scored three runs. Conner Helms also singled and scored three runs.
Ferguson pitched five innings and gave up seven runs, only two earned, on six walks while striking out 12. Jacob Myers pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up six runs on six hits and four walks while Chase Richardson got the last out.
Winona 15, Vardaman 5
The Tigers finished with a six-run sixth inning to take a run-rule win over the Rams on Thursday.
Winona scored one in the first and five in the third to lead 6-0. The Tigers added three in the fourth and six in the sixth while Vardaman scored one in the fourth and four in the fifth.
Winona outhit Vardaman 8-3 in the contest while the Rams committed eight errors. Javaris Hemphill was 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Chase Richardson tripled and scored two runs. Griffin Falkner doubled and scored two runs while Dalton Ferguson scored two runs and had two RBIs. Jacob Myers singled and scored two runs while Aiden Eldridge also scored twice.
Clayton Sheffield started and pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on two hits and four runs. Richardson pitched the last 1 2/3 innings and gave up one run and one walk while striking out two.
