Greenwood, Ms. (November 18, 2024) – The Salvation Army invites you to join its annual holiday celebration, kicking off its largest and most recognized fundraiser, the Christmas Red Kettle Campaign. On November 21, 2024, The Salvation Army in Greenwood will launch this season's Christmas campaign with the inaugural ringing of its iconic red bell, heralding the spirit of hope and generosity that defines the organization's mission and commitment to “Do The Most Good.” The community is invited to join the kick-off celebration at noon @ Greenwood Marketplace, 410 W. Park Ave. Greenwood, Ms.
“We are excited to ring in the holiday season with this event,” said Captain Johnny Anthony of The Salvation Army. “We want to remind everyone that The Salvation Army provides many services and programs to those in need right here in the Ms. Delta region. When you give to a Red Kettle, you are helping your neighbors because those donations stay local.”
Last year, the organization supported over 729 people through various programs and services. The Salvation Army predicts that there will be a significant increase in requests for assistance as families continue to face high food, utility, and housing costs.
“Many families are still in need,” Captain Anthony said. “We’ve set this year's fundraising goal at $90,000 to meet the increased needs this holiday season and beyond.”
The kick-off event will also highlight how The Salvation Army is embracing modern technology to offer more convenient giving options for potential donors. All Red Kettles now feature QR codes, allowing shoppers to make quick and secure donations using their phones. The Kettles can accept other forms of payment, including credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Venmo.
“For those who prefer the ease of online giving, please visit greenwoodemptystocking.org,” Captain Anthony stated. “There is also an option for supporters to host online Red Kettle fundraisers by choosing the ‘Fundraising’ option, or even host a Red Kettle at their place of business.”
One of the primary programs the Red Kettle initiative funds is the Angel Tree program, which provides gifts and clothing to children, seniors, and families who would otherwise go without. Last year, the Salvation Army provided toys and essentials for over 450 children and seniors in need.
“Red Kettle donations can help ensure every child gets to experience the joy and miracle of Christmas,” stated Captain Anthony. “We hope everyone will come out to help us get the holiday season started.”
