A few major topics were discussed at the Tuesday night, August 6, Carrollton Board of Alderman meeting. Before getting into business, it was noted that Town Clerk C.J. Coleman as well as Aldermen Tommy Goodman and Alderman Bo Milton were absent from the meeting, with Alderman Milton having given his proxy to Alderman Warren Long for voting. Many business figures and guests were in attendance at the meeting, having their topics of concern heard and discussed by the Board.
The first topic of discussion was quotes given by H&H Construction for various projects around town. Representative Eric Hopkins presented the quotes to the Board. The Board approved the following projects with their respective quotes: to clean three ditches (two on Hafner St. and one on Magnolia St.) in the amount of $2,000, to clean a ditch on Hafner St. and install a culvert in the amount of $800 (culvert to be provided By Beat 2 Supervisor Josh Hurst), and to repair a washout on Hafner St. in the amount of $1,5000.
Next, the Board heard from Town Engineer Kyle Grubb regarding updates on ongoing projects in Carrollton. Engineer Grubb presented several quotes for work on various projects, updated the Board on ongoing communications with Archives and History for grant allocation, and discussed work to be done around the water tower at the entrance of town. The board talked about sodding that is to be put down around the water tower and the need for nearby waterline access. Mayor Pam Lee requested that Water Operator Galen Shumaker examine the nearby area and give a quote for putting in a meter near the tower for immediate water access.
The Final major topic of discussion was brought to the Board by Billy and Melinda Whitsell of Citizen's Militia of Mississippi/Carroll-Grenada Chapter (CMM). The couple explained that they would like to hold an appreciation lunch bar for First Responders in the Carroll County area in front of the Sheriff’s Office in Carrollton. The event would take place on September 7th and food would be available for responders to pick up starting around 11 a.m. Burgers, chips, drinks, and burger dressings would be available free of charge to First Responders during the event. The couple stated that they wished to show their appreciation for all responders in the county. “We want to make sure that our First Responders in Carroll County, and the ones that we’ve worked with, know that they are appreciated.” Melinda Whitsell stated.
