A postal carrier was killed Saturday when the delivery van she was driving overturned in a two-car accident near Holcomb.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident occurred shortly after noon on Mississippi 7, south of Holcomb, near Malmaison Road. Both vehicles involved, the postal van and an SUV, were traveling northward when they collided.
The postal carrier, 53-year-old Loretta Hopkins of Winona, was pronounced dead on the scene. She reportedly worked out of the Grenada office.
The driver of the SUV, 58-year-old Earl Stewart of Sidon, and the lone passenger in his vehicle did not appear to be seriously injured.
Traffic was held up for more than an hour as emergency personnel tended to the
scene.
The Highway Patrol said on Sunday that the crash remains under investigation.
