Clayton “Uncle Cooter” Sam Myers Jr., 77, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital surrounded by his family.
Visitation was on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Williams and Lord Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. in Centerville Church Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Bush officiating.
Pallbearers were David Smith, Colby Holloway, Jerry Holloway, Steven Hobson, Wesley Gregg and Donnie Sudduth; and honorary pallbearers will be Clayton’s grandsons.
He was born Nov.21, 1944, to the late Jim and Francis Myers in Sunflower County. He was retired from Saunders Farms as a farm manager.
Clayton was a member of Centerville Baptist Church and served on the cemetery board of the church. He enjoyed working on his tractors, and mowing the grass.
Clayton’s greatest passion was his grandchildren. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Francis Myers; sister-in-law, Wanda Myers; brother in law, Johnny Nichols; niece, Angela Faye Myers; and his nephew, John Jason Nichols.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sue Myers; four children, Marshall Myers (Gale), Tracy Myers (Brittany), Wayne Myers (Belinda) and Felicia Ingram (Robert); four siblings, Eddie “Allen” Myers, Bobby Myers, Tommy Myers (Judy), and Mary Catherine “Sissy” Nichols.
Clayton also leaves behind eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Memorial contributions may be made to Centerville Cemetery Association, 261 CR 149 Greenwood, MS 38930.
