Joey Tompkins has the archery team firing on all cylinders as they posted a pair of wins in shoots last week.
In a shoot held at J.Z. George on Thursday, the Tigers came in first with 2,732 points. Pillow Academy was second with 2,620 points, and George was third with 2,498 points.
Jacob Bullard was the top male shooter with a 259 total. Luke Huffman was next at 255, and Wheeler Chandler shot a 249.
For the girls, Brycelyn Townsend shot a 239, and Bailey Holly shot 233. Lily Dykes shot a 228.
The archery team picked up a win over Pillow Academy last Tuesday at Winona High School. Winona outscored the Mustangs 2,851 to 2,639 points.
The top male shooters for Winona with their scores were Kirven McCrory (263), Chandler (263) and Cole Cochran (262). Other male shooters in the top 12 were Bullard (258), Huffman (255), Caleb Bullard (238) and Ethan Drake (201).
The top female shooters with their scores were Holly (242), Emma Marshall (242) and Townsend (222). Other females in Winona’s top 12 were Dykes (221) and Autumn Powell (184).
Winona’s elementary team also shot in the competition and had a team score of 1,697 points. The top 12 were Wyatt Goss (227), Dylan Johnson (196), Saxon Durham (178), Nikhyla Baskin (165), Alexandra White (158), John Sykes (145), Khamiya Russell (134), Atavis Campbell (124), Carson Britt (113), Harlie Melton (88), Jacob Wilson (85) and Cody Goss (84).
Winona High softball
The Lady Tigers fell to 1-4 on the season with a pair of losses last week in girls fast-pitch softball action.
Winona dropped a 12-0 decision to Bruce last Friday as it was held to two hits, a single each by Olivia Swindle and Dorothy Martin. Swindle also took the loss in the circle as she went three innings, allowing 12 runs on five hits, walking four and fanning one.
The Lady Tigers fell behind 5-1 after the first inning to visiting French Camp Academy on Feb. 28 and dropped a 16-6 decision.
French Camp tacked on a run each in the second and sixth frames, four in the third, two in the fourth and three in the seventh. Winona scored one run each in the first, sixth and seventh innings, and three in the fifth.
Swindle took the loss in the circle as he gave up all 16 runs on 10 hits, walking seven and striking out one.
Martin had two singles and a double for the Lady Tigers. She also drove in two runs and scored once. Hailey Burton had two singles, and Swindle, Emma Marshall and Mary Beth Brannon had a single each. Marshall had an RBI, and Swindle, Brannon and Katie Cooper scored a run each.
The Lady Tigers host Bruce Friday and play two games Saturday in their spring break tournament. They take on Water Valley at 10 a.m. and face Scott Central at 4 p.m.
Winona High track
The track season officially got under way with the Winona High Invitational Saturday. The Tigers won the boys division with 143 points, just edging Grenada, which had 142 points.
The Lady Tigers came in fifth with 74 team points.
