The Stars outscored the Rebels in each of the first three periods and took a 12-point win over the rival Rebels last week.
Winona opened the game by outscoring Carroll 16-12 in the first period and 14-11 in the second to build a 30-23 lead at the half. The Stars built that lead to double digits in the third as they outscored the Rebels 16-10 to lead 46-33 going into the fourth. Carroll took the fourth period 10-9 for the final margin.
“I thought defensively we did a good job of trying to stop the two twins,” WCS Coach Nick Mumme said. “Our goal was to make life hard on them offensively and I thought we did that. I thought we did a good job with the game plan. We were very patient on offense and waited to put up the right shot.”
Jake Ware had a big game for Winona Christian with 25 points and six rebounds while Collin Parkinson had 11 points and three assists. Reese Johnson had eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks while Reese Cooper had eight points, nine rebounds and three steals.
“I didn’t get my boys until the season started but I feel like we are getting on the right track,” Mumme said. “We are on a three-game winning streak. We beat Carroll for the first time in a while and are 1-0 in the district. We have played some really tough competition and that has helped us handle the pressure. I think it will help us in January and February. The boys are starting to play really good team ball and sharing the ball. They are executing the offense and playing well on defense right now.”
Noah Beck led Carroll with 17 points while Landon Grantham had 10 points. Mathis Beck had eight points while Drake Dunn added six points.

“We are 11-4 right now and when we made the schedule, we wanted to play some tough competition so we can see what we need to work on,” Mumme said. “We have had our struggles at time, especially on offense. But I think these practices we have had over the Christmas break have really helped us. We have shown we can play well at times we just need to be more consistent. I’m excited about the few practices we have had and how we have executed on offense. I think we are starting to click, and you want them to be clicking when you get to January. We will face some good teams next week and we will see where we are at.”
Meri Brynn Reeves led Carroll with seven points and Dru Chamblee also had five points.
