The Winona Christian Stars saw their season come to an end last week in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.
The bottom dropped out for the Stars in game one of the series as a 15-run inning propelled Kirk Academy to an 18-6 win. The Raiders finished off the series with a 15-4 win on Thursday.
The Stars end the season with a 14-7 record after winning the District 2-4A championship.
Kirk Academy 18, Winona Christian 6
The game was tight the first four innings and Winona Christian took a lead before Kirk exploded in the bottom of the fifth to take the win.
Each team scored one run in the first inning and each team scored two in the third to tie the game up at 3-3. After a scoreless fourth, Winona scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. But Kirk then scored 15 runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the run-rule victory.
The Stars had just four hits and drew six walks while Kirk banged out 11 hits and drew 10 walks. Jake Ware doubled, stole two bases and scored three runs while Brannon Hill singled and drove in two runs. Parker Bledsoe and Lane Beckwith each had singles as well.
Bledsoe started on the mound and pitched four innings, giving up eight runs, only three earned, on six hits and five walks while striking out three. Jake Ware only got one out and gave up five runs on two hits and three walks while Davis Dew didn’t record an out and gave up five runs on three hits and two walks.
Kirk Academy 15, Winona Christian 4
The Raiders used a steady supply of offense to pull way and take an 11-run win over the Stars on Thursday to sweep the series.
Kirk scored three in the first, two in the second and three more in the third while Winona scored one in the first and second as the Raiders led 8-2 after four innings. Kirk finished with one in the fifth and three in the sixth and seventh. Winiona added single runs in the sixth and seventh.
The Stars had six hits and drew nine walks. Jake Ware was 2-for-4 with a double while Trace Carpenter was also 2-for-4. Collin Parkinson tripled and drove in a run while Parker Bledsoe signed and scored a run.
Carpenter started on the mound and went five innings, giving up nine runs on nine hits and five walks to take the loss. Parkinson pitched the last two innings and gave up six runs on four hits and six walks.
