The J.Z. George boys stayed alive in the Region 4-2A Tournament with a 74-40 win over Eupora High School Tuesday at Choctaw County in Ackerman.
The Jaguars (6-15) move on to face No. 2 seed Bruce at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the semis. The winner advances to the region championship game Friday at 8:30 p.m. The loser will play in the consolation game at 5:30 p.m. The top four teams advance to the State 2A Tournament next week.
J.Z. George raced out to a 19-8 lead after the first period and put the game out of reach with a 23-12 run in the second period for a 42-20 lead at the half. The Jags outscored the Eagles 19-14 in the third frame for a 61-34 advantage headed to the fourth quarter.
D’Anthony McGlothan led the Jaguars with 28 points, five rebounds and three steals. Rodney Catron had 13 points and three boards, and Alex Criss tacked on eight points, four rebounds and two steals.
Keiyhaun Wilks and Da’Ravion Seals had six points each. Wilks grabbed eight boards. Kendarius Head finished with five points.
The Lady Jags weren’t as fortunate as they dropped a 65-54 decision to Bruce, ending their season with a 4-16 record.
Aaniyah Williams capped her sophomore campaign with a 28-point performance. Natijah Basin tallied nine points.
Bruce led 18-16 after the first period, 32-30 at the half and 47-44 after the third frame.
J.Z. George’s regular-season finale against Coffeeville High School slated for last Friday was canceled because of the weather. It was scheduled to be Senior Night for the Lady Jags and Jaguars.
