Dear Editor,
After reading Mr. Kalich’s article on the debate, the first thing that came to mind was, was that really a debate? First of all, presidential debates are an invention of television. The very first debate conducted, Nixon was sweaty, with a 5 p.m. shadow. Appearance and style have always outweighed substance and response, unless a candidate can counter with a response that the other person does not have a reasonable response to. For all practical purposes, I don't even see why you bothered to write the article when all is said done. Despite of what you stated, most likely you'll vote for Mr. Trump. I mean I could say this since you believe quite possibly Mr. Biden is crooked.
And, if I could, let me add some historical reference to this age thing as far as health. Pres. Harrison performed all his duties from bed having acquired the pneumonia and died only after a month in office. Folks talk about Mr. Biden's walk, yet FDR, who arguably accomplished more than any other president, couldn't walk and by the time he was in the middle of his third term the pain was near unbearable. During the last week of his life, he spent the entire time in bed still getting work done and writing the final words to what was part of the charter for the United Nations. He was only 63 when he died. And let's be real here, after a year into his second term "the great communicator," Pres. Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
Finally let’s say, that as far as a debate, it was not. In the book of Proverbs there are nearly 70 descriptions of a fool. One talks about a liar and to stay clear of them. I would have been confused too, if I had to spend 90 minutes not just on lies, but grievances including how bad the country is. Pessimism and message should have some patriotic feel to it. In all reality, here's the truth: with 14 different departments all under the office of President, and those departments have hundreds of agencies within them totaling nearly 2.5 million people, you're not really examining the health of an individual, but his administration and how well he delegates. We forget that Mr. Trump never had a full cabinet. Whether that was by design or not, many of his outcomes as president were less than desired, and he has some health issues of his own that many folks who voted for him have expounded on in books when it comes to his comprehensive skills. No wonder he didn't talk about one policy.
