The Winona High School girls basketball team was able to pick up one win in three games in action last week.
The Lady Tigers knocked off visiting O’Bannon High School 42-30 on Jan. 21 as they led 13-7 after the first period, 21-20 at the half and 34-28 after the third frame.
Ariella Jones led Winona with 15 points, and Madison Keys chipped in eight points. Azaria Small had six points, and Mikhalah Coker finished with five.
In the boys game vs. O’Bannon, the Greenwaves posted a 70-52 victory as they led 13-12 after one, 35-29 at the half and 51-38 after the third period.
Darrion Crawford had 22 points for Winona, and Jemarcus Robinson and Troylando Eden scored seven each. Ayden Johnson and Yoshawn Hudson had six points apiece.
Winona played at Region 3-3A foe Thomas E. Edwards (Ruleville) on Friday night. The girls dropped a 53-43 decision despite racing out to an 18-11 lead after the first frame. Ruleville tied the game at 23-23 by halftime and took a 37-30 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Jones led the Lady Tigers with 18 points, and Small tallied 10. Coker had seven points, and Keys tacked on five.
In the boys game, Ruleville beat the Tigers 68-33. Ruleville led 12-4 after the first, 32-15 at the half and 55-22 after the third.
Ariez Peeples led Winona with 14 points, and Johnson and Robinson had four each.
Winona closed out its week by hosting Humphreys County in Region 3 games Saturday. The girls lost 34-28 to slip to 7-15 overall and 0-5 in league play. Winona led 6-2 after one and 15-9 at the half, but Ruleville tied the game at 18-18 by the end of the third and outscored the Lady Tigers 16-10 in the fourth.
Jones led Winona with 23 points.
In the boys game, Humphreys County won 52-22 as it led 23-7 after one and 41-14 at the half. Peeples led the Tigers (5-17, 1-4) with seven points. Crawford had four points.
Winona, which hosted Yazoo County Monday and visited Amanda Elzy Tuesday, entertains Ruleville Friday before competing in the Region 3 Tournament Feb. 4-7 at Yazoo County.
