Youth was on display earlier this week as the Winona Christian Lady Stars swept Class AAA, District 2 rival Washington School of Greenville by scores of 7-0 and 12-1.
With the wins, WCS improves to 12-6 overall and 3-3 inside the district. It was the first action for the Lady Stars in a week.
Eighth-grader Gowan Cain and seventh-grader Harlee Lepard combined to hold the Lady Generals to four hits and one run in two games.
“We have two outstanding young pitchers,” WCS head coach Katie Ramage said. “They went out and threw the ball well.”
Offensively, Winona Christian combined for 24 hits in the two games.
“We had a long break between the Tri-County and Washington games, so I was glad to see the girls come out with fire at the plate,” Ramage added. “All through the lineup, we hit the ball in both games.”
In the series opener at Winona Monday, senior Hannah Ware led the way going 2-for-4 (home run, 4 RBI, run). Freshman Aubree Ingold was 2-for-3 (2 runs) and eighth-grader Charlee Franklin finished 2-for-4 (run). Junior Gracee Faulkner had two singles, while senior Lily Welch hit a single and scored a run.
