The Winona Christian girls continued their domination in district play last week.
The Lady Stars opened the district tournament with a 65-26 win over Indianola and then took the district title with a 50-21 win over Central Holmes.
The Stars weren’t as fortunate as they fell in the district finals to Greenville St. Joseph, losing 60-55 in the finals.
The Lady Stars were the No. 1 seed out of District 2 and faced Marshall Academy on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
The Stars will face Lee Academy on Thursday at 7:45 p.m.
Winona Christian girls 50, Central Holmes 21
The Lady Stars had little trouble in the championship game as they raced to a 29-point win.
Winona Christian used a stingy defense to build an early lead as they outscored Central Holmes 12-2 in the first and 13-5 in the second to lead 25-7 at the half. Winona continued to extend its lead in the third period and outscored Central Holmes 14-1 to take a 39-8 lead to the fourth. The Lady Trojans took the fourth period 13-11 for the final margin.
Olivia Brooks had a big game with 20 points and nine steals while Bella Roberts had 15 points and five steals. Sara Beth Rawles had five points, 10 rebounds and three steals.
St. Joseph boys 60, Winona Christian 55
The Stars lost for the second time this season as the Irish won the district championship on Saturday.
The game was back and forth as St. Joe led 11-10 at the end of the first and 26-24 at the half. The Irish then outscored Winona Christian 18-14 in the third to extend its lead to 44-38 going to the fourth. Winona Christian took the fourth 17-16 but couldn’t come back on the Irish.
Reese Johnson led Winona Christian with 14 points and four rebounds while Reese Cooper had 13 points and six rebounds. Collin Parkinson also had 10 points.
Winona Christian girls 65, Indianola 26
The Lady Stars outscored the Lady Colonels invert period as they took an easy 39-point win on Friday.
Winona jumped out to a 24-13 lead in the first period and then outscored Indianola 16-5 in the second to lead 40-18 at the half. The Lady Stars continued to extend their lead in the second half, outscoring the Lady Colonels 13-5 in the third and 12-3 in the fourth to take the win.
Bella Roberts led Winona Christian with 26 points, five rebounds and three steals. Olivia Brooks had 14 points and four steals while Autum Lishman added five points and four steals.
Winona Christian boys 48, Indianola 46
The Stars held on in the fourth and barely avoided a semifinal upset as they took a two-point win over the Colonels on Friday.
Winona outscored Indianola 12-10 in the first and 11-9 in the second to lead 23-19 at the half. Winona extended the lead in third period and outscored Indianola 15-9 and led 38-28 going to the fourth. The Colonels outscored the Stars 18-10 in the fourth for the final margin.
Reese Johnson led Winona Christian with 16 points and five rebounds while Collin Parkinson had 12 points. Jake Ware was held to seven points and four rebounds.
