The Winona Christian Lady Stars softball team improved their overall record to 14-7 thanks to a 2-1 week, which included a Class AAA, District 2 sweep of Winston Academy.
Action started last Saturday with a 6-3 loss to Class AA power Tunica on the road. The Lady Stars closed week out by blanking Winston 14-0 Monday at home and won a 12-0 decision over the Lady Patriots Tuesday on Senior Night.

In Monday’s contest, an 11-run first inning was the difference.
Senior Allie Leach led the 12-hit attack going 2-for-3 (double, 2 RBI, 2 runs), while eighth-grader Charlee Franklin finished 2-for-2 (double, RBI, 2 runs). Senior Hannah Ware was 1-for-2 (RBI, 2 runs) and eight-grader Gowan Cain finished 1-for-2 (RBI, 2 runs). Junior Grace Faulkner (2 RBI, run), freshman Daylen Dew (2 runs, RBI) and senior Lilly Welch (2 RBI, run) each finished with a single. Freshman Aubree Ingold (RBI, run), junior Molly Lott (run) and senior Salley Carr Hill all chipped in with singles.
Seventh-grader Harlee Lepard pitched three innings (2 hits, one walk, 5 strikeouts) to get the win.
The series finale Tuesday saw Cain allow just one hit in three innings of work, allowing a pair of walks and striking out three.
Leach was the standout hitter for WCS going 2-for-3 (home run, double, 3 RBI, 3 runs), while Lepard finished perfect at the dish going 3-for-3 (2 doubles, 3 RBI, 2 runs). Cain had a 2-for-3 (home run, 3 RBI, run) night and Ware was also 2-for-3 (double, RBI, 2 runs). Welch scored two runs, while Dew and Franklin (RBI) both scored a run.
Cain was the winning pitcher allowing one hit in three innings of work. She walked two and struck out three.
Tunica
A five-run second inning was the difference as the Lady Blue Devils took advantage of four WCS errors that led to six unearned runs.
The Lady Stars managed just five hits in the contest. Cain was 2-for-3 (triple, double) to lead the way. Leach (double, run), Faulkner (double, RBI) and Lepard (RBI, run) all had a hit in the contest. Eighth-grader Bristol Greene scored a run.
Cain (4 innings, 7 hits, 6 unearned runs, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts) and Lepard (2 innings, one walk, one strikeout) combined on the pitching.
Winona Christian School closes the regular season Monday by hosting Indianola Academy with games beginning at 4 p.m.
