Coming off a big homecoming win, the Jaguars will be traveling to take on the Trojans of Bruce High School at 7 p.m. Friday.
J.Z. George improved to 2-2 on the season with a 39-0 route over Riverside last week.
Jaguar head coach Dustin Alford said the team did a better job of handling the distractions of homecoming week than in years past.
“We were able to get locked in, get focused and get the message of ‘the festivities are good, but we’re playing for a win,’” said Alford, who is in his third year as head coach.
The Jaguars were able to establish the run game against Riverside with 202 rushing yards split between six different ball carriers. Alford said they were able to get several young players involved, and leaned into their identity of the rushing attack.
Their next opponent, Bruce, comes into the game undefeated at 4-0 overall. The Trojans defeated Coffeeville on the road last week, 38-16.
“They are a really balanced team offensively and defensively,” Alford said. “We’re going to have to clean up some mistakes with penalties and stuff like that. We’re going to have to contain their quarterback (Joshua Long). He does a good job of scrambling and distributing the ball. If we can handle him and do our job, we’ll be in good shape.
“It will be one of the more competitive games we’ve had,” he said. "This will be a really good test for us before heading into district play.”
