Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Anne Pinkston Layman of Vaiden were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 4, at Vaiden Baptist Church, with burial following in Hopewell Cemetery in Vaiden. Rev. John Staszefski and Rev. Philip McRae officiated the services. Pallbearers were David Caldwell, Jr., David Alan Welch, Calab Alan Welch, Jacob Welch, Gabriel Ortiz and Cash Kilgore.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Layman, 89, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. She was born to George Anderson "G.A." and Lera Minyard Pinkston on June 13, 1936. Joyce was a member of Vaiden Baptist Church and a member of the Vaiden Baptist Church Live Wires. Prior to retirement, she worked as a secretary for the Mississippi Department of Transportation
She is survived by daughters, Patti Welch Stuart (Roger) of Vaiden and Theresa Layman of Madison; sons, Larry "Monkey" Welch (Teresa) of Vaiden, Kenny Welch of Diamond Head, Charles "Chuck" Welch (Carol) of Pelahatchie and Gary Wayne Layman of Terry; sister, Hilda McCorkle of Vaiden; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Layman and brother, Billy Pinkston.
