At the April 1 City of Winona Board of Aldermen meeting, Animal Control Officer Ricky Johnson addressed the Board about an upcoming fundraising event for the Winona Animal Rescue on April 18. This event will be hosted by Jordan's Way.
“On April 18, I have a guy that’s coming, his name is Kris Rotunda. He goes around to different shelter and rescues, and he talks for three hours and does a fundraiser,” Johnson explained.
Johnson informed the Board that a $250 deposit is needed to secure the event. Alderman Harris made a motion to approve this deposit to be made to Jordan’s Way, seconded by Alderman Austin. All were in favor.
“Our goal is to raise $15,000,” Johnson informed the Board.
The fundraiser will be held at the Community House on Sterling Avenue in Winona on Friday, April 18, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Johnson is looking for community support, as it will be crucial for the event to be successful, with 30 to 40 volunteers needed. Interested volunteers should arrive at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event, at the Community House, where Kris Rotunda and Mary Lynne will provide guidance on the day’s activities.
This event is described as “an exciting combination of a Jerry Lewis Telethon mixed with a Nickelodeon episode.” The Jordan’s Way Live fundraiser will feature entertaining challenges including pie throwing, tortilla slaps, ice buckets, food challenges, and slime.
Community members who don't wish to participate in the messy activities can still make a valuable contribution by spreading the word about the event on social media and throughout the community, helping the Winona Animal Rescue maximize its fundraising potential.
