Longtime Winona leader Travis Johnson has announced his candidacy for re-election as Alderman of Ward 2 in the upcoming 2025 election, seeking to build upon his 14 years of service to the community.
"I feel like I have a lot to offer the city," Johnson stated. "Since I've been on the Board, I have just about paved every street in my ward, at least one time—with the exception of three or four, which we have plans and money to pave in the next couple of years. Some streets have been paved twice."
A lifelong Winona resident and Winona High School graduate, Johnson furthered his education at Mississippi State University before returning to his hometown. His professional experience includes years working in his family's timber and sawmill business, along with entrepreneurial experience as a restaurant owner until 1999, when he returned to the family business.
Johnson first joined the Board of Aldermen in 2011 and has served continuously since then. He takes pride in the city's recent infrastructure accomplishments.
"We [the Board] recently invested a substantial amount in upgrading our water and sewer infrastructure. That's a significant investment in just one four-year term," Johnson explained.
As an active member of New Hope Methodist Church, Johnson has balanced civic duty with community involvement throughout his tenure. He expressed that he enjoys working with community members and his fellow Board colleagues, which drives his desire to continue serving Winona.
Having successfully improved local streets and contributed to important infrastructure projects, Johnson is seeking Ward 2 residents' support for another term. His dedication to making tangible improvements throughout his Ward demonstrates his commitment to Winona's progress. Johnson hopes to continue this important work for another term and would be honored to receive the community's vote to keep moving Winona forward.
