Funeral services for Joe Harold Johnson, Sr., 89, of North Carrollton, were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at North Carrollton Baptist Church with visitation 1 p.m. until service time. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery. He died at his home in North Carrollton in the comfort of family and friends. The Rev. Terry Corley, the Rev. Owen Hitchcock, and Chaplin Trey Jamison officiated the services.
Mr. Johnson was born September 11, 1935, in Leflore County. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Beuna Dodd Johnson and Thomas Herman “Jack” Johnson, and his only sibling, Thomas Herman John-son, Jr.
Harold was a member of North Carrollton Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Leflore County High School in Itta Bena. After graduation he was employed by Ralph Lembo Farms where his father was the Farm Man-ager. After his father’s death, Harold moved on to become the General Manager of Scott Petroleum Corpora-tion and remained there for 42 years until his retirement in 2005. During that time, he was a volunteer fire-fighter and served as an alderman for the City of Itta Bena.
He will always be remembered for his loyal commitment to Scott Petroleum, its many employees and most of all, his family. Harold loved to travel and was an active member in North Carrollton Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Nabors Johnson of North Carrollton; two sons, Joe Harold “Joey” Johnson, Jr. (Beverly) of Avon, and William Robert “Rob” Johnson (Geri) of North Carrollton; four grandchildren, Joe Harold “Hal” Johnson III, Bobby Johnson, Brandy Johnson and Dustin Rushing ; twelve great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Van Meter, and brother-in-law, TJ Nabors (Jan), all of North Carrollton.
Pallbearers were Bill Pickett, George Pickett, Danny Holliman, Doug Carpenter, Ken Johnson and Vonzell Self. Honorary pallbearers were Casey Carpenter, Bobby Johnson, Hal Johnson, Ricky James, Wilton Neal, Allan Dunn and Thomas Donahue.
Harold’s family would like to extend their appreciation to his caregivers, some are family and others are like family, Geri Johnson, Geraldine Rias, Accent Health and Hospice, his nurses, and members of North Carroll-ton Baptist Church.
