Funeral services for Joan Hardin McNeer Cox of Winona were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Winona Garden of Memory. The Rev. Ed McDaniel officiated the services. Pallbearers were Matt Surrell, Cole Surrell, Kelby Surrell, Ben McNeer, Luke McNeer, and Jacob Chambley.
Visitation was Friday, Dec. 27 from 9 a.m. until service time at Oliver Funeral Home.
Joan Hardin McNeer Cox, 89, passed away at Winona Manor Nursing Home on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. She was born in Winona on June 8, 1935, to Lee Roy and Elwin Burke Hardin. She was the retired owner of Ole McDonald's Farm Day Care and a homemaker. She was a member of North Winona Baptist Church.
She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Surrell (Bo) of Grenada and Peggy Chambley (Jimmy) of Winona; two sons, Gene McNeer (Donna) of Winona and Danny McNeer of Charlotte, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, H. G. "Buddy" McNeer and Roscoe Cox; sister, Ellanor Calhoun; and two brothers, Vernon Hardin and Joe Hardin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Operation Christmas Child ministry of any church of the donor's choice.
