Janis passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, surrounded by her cherished family. A retired Head Teller with BancorpSouth, she was known for her warmth, humor, and deep love for those around her.
Born on January 17, 1954, in Winona, Janis was the daughter of Mildred Orr Boyette Matthews and Elbert Houston “Buck” Boyette. She spent her early years in Winona, where she developed the strong sense of fami-ly and community that defined her life. After graduating high school from Winona Academy, class of 1972, she met her soulmate, Charles Leon Rogers of Kilmichael. The two married on March 16, 1973, and soon after made their home in Pearl, where they lovingly raised their two sons.
To Janis, being a mother to her “baby boys” was life’s greatest honor—until she became a grandmother. Her four grandchildren, three girls and one boy, were the light of her life. She especially adored spending time with Kaylan (8) and Riley Kate (3), capturing their joyful moments on video, and sharing their sweet songs and dances with her friends and family on social media.
Janis had a passion for decorating and helping others make their homes beautiful. She found joy in her flower garden, singing along to music, and caring for her beloved dog, Barbie. Her greatest happiness, however, al-ways came from time spent with family.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Charles Rogers; two sons, Jason (Lorena) and 2 children of Kyle, Texas, and Chris (Amanda) and 2 children, Kaylan and Riley Kate Rogers of Florence; her siblings, Peggy B. Gooch, Sherry B. Welch, and Sandy B. Jones (Brooks), all of Winona, and Mickey Boyette (Donna) of Grenada; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her dearly.
Janis was preceded in death by her sister, Margie B. Scruggs, and her parents, Elbert Houston Boyette and Mildred Orr Boyette Matthews.
Pallbearers were Mickey Boyette, Brooks Jones, Daniel White, Pablo Martinez, Ray Messer, and Charlie Mar-tinez, with Seth Rogers serving as Honorary Pallbearer. She was laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona.
