The Duck Hill Volunteer Fire Department sprang into action on Monday, July 15, responding to a shed on fire at 618 Farmer Dr. The call came in at 11:39 a.m., alerting responders to the fire neighboring the Duck Hill Head Start. Two fire trucks and six volunteer firefighters rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team discovered that the property owner had been battling the flames with a garden hose, managing to keep the fire at bay until help arrived. The fire, which had originated in the building's attic, was believed to be electrical in nature. Building on the owner's initial efforts, the firefighters thoroughly extinguished the fire, a process that took approximately an hour and a half.
Fire Chief Michael D. Woods praised the quick thinking of the property owner, whose actions likely prevented the flames from spreading further before the fire department's arrival. He also commended his team's perseverance in battling the fire.
