Helen Ruth Chesteen Stevens, the daughter of Henry Davis and Elvie Lacey Chesteen, passed away on Oct. 3, 2025, at the age of 81. Helen was born on August 2, 1944, in Kosciusko, Miss. Helen grew up in the Poplar Creek community and graduated from Kilmichael High School in 1962. Helen was the mother of three sons: Carlos Eugene Pruitt Jr., Cecil Dwaine Pruitt, and Ricky Stevens. Helen held residences across Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, Arizona., and North Carolina. She spent her last 18 years in North Carolina.
Helen Stevens spent her life working hard. She supported her sons as they grew. She worked into her later years and spent her last few years still giving to others. She was an active participant with the YMCA Silver Sneakers at Cherryville, NC. She enjoyed making meals and treats and exercising with her friends. She enjoyed the fruits and laughter of grandchildren and great grandchildren until her time on this world was done.
Helen attended church at Venture Church of Dallas, NC where she grew in her faith and her knowledge of Christ. She leaves behind a church that remembers her fondly. Helen also leaves behind three sons, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Helen’s graveside memorial service will be held at Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church located at 54 Nations Road, Kilmichael, MS 39747 at 11 a.m. on Nov. 8, 2025. Thoughts, prayers, and cards are appreciated but flowers minimal please.
