Gerald Wayne Banks, 75, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 13 at the North Carrollton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cindy Glazier officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation was from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Wayne was born July 25, 1949, to Troy Gene and Doris Slater Banks, in Greenwood. He was raised in Leflore County and attended Greenwood High School. After school he served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Korea. He later worked at Erday Clothier in Geneva, Ill. and J. Kantor's in Greenwood. He later managed The House Paneling part of Simpson, Stepp & Lott Lumber Co. At the time of his death, he was the caretaker of Evergreen Cemetery.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Kimberly Banks and Mary Ann Banks. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Julia Lott Banks; a daughter, Lorette Box (Jeff Reeves) of North Carrollton, two sons, Erick Banks of New Orleans, La., Jeff Box (Lori) of Greenwood; a brother Randy Banks (Leslie) of North Carrollton; grandchildren Jacob Banks of New Orleans, La., Hunter Box (Leslie) of Cleveland, Kaity Higginbotham (Gray) of Schlater and three great-grandchildren, Clayton Box, Parker James Box and Mary Cole Higginbotham.
Pallbearers were Gray Higginbotham, Hunter Box, Jeff Box, Jeff Reeves, Josh Matthews and Randy Banks. George Bostick was an honorary pallbearer.
