Winona was leading Choctaw County 28-14 in the third quarter of an early season game, but the Tigers were backed up, facing third and 13 at their own one yard line. If forced to punt, Choctaw County would get good position with a chance to get back in the game.
From the left side as a wide receiver, Adavion Hargrove took off on a fly pattern, using his track team speed to run past the defense. An'Darius Coffey dropped back into the end zone and lifted a pass that hit Hargrove in stride near midfield.
Hargrove went the rest of the way untouched to break open a game the Tigers won 42-14.
It was that type of season for Coffey and Hargrove, who were a dynamic pitch-and-catch duo. Hargrove averaged better than 20 yards with 25 receptions for 540 yards.
Fittingly, the two were together last Wednesday for a signing day celebration at the Winona cafeteria, There was no mystery as to where Hargrove was headed. He showed up wearing a Northeast Mississippi Community College cap.
Coffey kept his plans secret, with visits to Duke, Tulane and Memphis after decommitting from Ole Miss. Even coach Joey Tompkins didn't know where his star quarterback was headed.
Coffey ended the suspense when he announced “I'm taking my talents to Duke University” while donning a Duke cap.
Beside being the home to Mike Krzyzewski, the winningest coach in the history of college basketball, Duke is one of the nation’s premier universities. U.S. News & World Report ranks Duke as the 10th best university overall and the best in the South.
